It’s A Girl

Sometime’s it’s the shortest sentences that can have the biggest impact. In this case, life changing.

If you’ve just stumbled upon this title, you’re probably thinking, congratulations, they are having a baby girl.

If you’re a subscriber of this blog, (I’d surprised if there still are any since I haven’t written a new post in years) then you might be thinking, great Mac (if you remember Mac) is getting a baby sister!

If you know our family personally, I hope you were sitting down. Rest assured, we are not pregnant and no we aren’t announcing our pregnancy via blog. (We’re done, just ask my wife)

And if you’re thoroughly confused, don’t worry. I’ll catch you up!

Life’s been crazy. 🤪

Might be the understatement of understatements.

I’m going to summarize some of the craziness of the last few years in this post, to simply get you caught up. Don’t worry, there’s plenty of stories and elaboration that will surely have to be shared!

Where to start. In the last 2.5 years our family has gone through the following:

We designed and built a new home!🏠

We moved our family (husband, wife, son and dog) in with my parents for 5 weeks while the construction/closing was behind schedule. 🏗

I was laid off from my employer of 10 years less then a month after closing on said new home. 🤷‍♂️

My wife was unexpectedly laid off only 8 days after my last day so we were both out of work before the first mortgage payment was due. 🤯

Both my wife and I secured and started new careers (on the same exact date – yes, we took first day of school pictures on the front steps)😎

My wife starting a side business 👚

I was promoted👍

Mac turned 3️⃣

I started a side business🙃

My wife was promoted👍👍

Mac turned 4️⃣ (and a half – he’ll tell you)

My wife ended her side business after a very successful two years 🥂

And at some point the dog turned 7️⃣

(No wonder I haven’t written a blog post in two years….) 🤦‍♂️

I feel like I’m forgetting something… oh yes, the big one! We were blessed with a beautiful baby girl named Charleston Grace (we call her Charlee) right in the middle of it all! 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Charlee is now 2 and a half, and will be 3 on April 27th. She has an amazing amount of personality for someone so new, but that’s shouldn’t surprise anyone that knows her mom! My wife always said she wanted a mini-me and lots of people have suggested Charlee is just that! (Mac is already my Mini-Me)

Although life is as crazy as it’s even been, I’ve truly never been happier.

Thanks for reading. I promise to share more stories soon!

Letter to Santa

Inevitably every holiday season the time seems get away from me and some sacrifices/questionable decisions have to be made.

This year this meant bringing both kids to the mall directly after day care so that both my wife and I could together pick out a gift for my dad.  This started off well, with Mac helping to pick out every yellow shirt and suggest that Papa would like them because “I like yellow.”  However, this eventually turned in a slightly different direction as Daddy was getting a little cranky (or hungry) and Mac had already had a long day of being two. The decision was made that my wife would keep the baby and continue to shop, while I would take the two year old and try to avoid any further meltdown.

Shortly after our escape Mac and I noticed a big red mailbox and a table next to the escalator inviting us to write a letting to Santa!  Thinking this was a great idea, I convinced Mac that we should write one from him.  He was plenty distracted but must have decided he would humor me and answer my questions while I wrote his requests.

Mac’s letter to Santa:
Dear Santa,

My name is Mac.  For Christmas I want toys, more train tracks, more toys and to go down this escalator…

The letter was abandoned on the table while I quickly reached to catch him before stepping onto the escalator.  Half way down I looked up to see a couple giggling while reading our letter and pointing down at Mac.

When we arrived back on the second floor Mac took his letter and placed it in the big red mailbox on its way to the North Pole.  It must’ve reached its destination because Mac received new train tracks, and plenty other toys, as well as a few more escalator rides.
